The Fredericktown High School girls basketball team played a pair of competitive games in the Central Christmas Tournament, last week.

Fredericktown, seeded seventh in the tournament, lost 52-51 to No. 6 Potosi, Wednesday.

The Trojans jumped to a 19-13 first quarter lead and maintained the six-point advantage, 31-26, at halftime.

Fredericktown got a basket from Callista Francis and a 3-pointer from Maddie Burrows to cut the deficit to 32-30 early in the third quarter. Potosi built its lead back up to eight before Evann Davis scored late to make it 44-38 heading into the final period.

Francis scored early in the fourth, and Davis made a pair of free throws, as the Cats cut the Potosi lead to two points. The Trojans scored six straight, but the Cats battled back again. Burrows, Mathes, and Francis each scored, and FHS trailed 50-48 with 45.3 seconds left. Potosi made two free throws, but Mathes made a 3-pointer with 14.6 seconds left to cut the Potosi lead to 52-51. After Potosi missed the front end of a one and one, Fredericktown had a chance for a last second shot, but it was off the mark.

Francis led the Cats with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Burrows scored 11 points, Mathes had nine, Kylie Mann scored eight, Davis scored six, and Emmaline Glore scored six points and added six rebounds.

December 26, the Cats lost 40-31 to No. 2 seed South Iron, 40-31.

Fredericktown trailed just 15-13 after one quarter. Both teams scored 12 points in the second period and the Panthers took a 27-25 lead into the break.

Both offenses slowed in the third quarter. South Iron was held to six points in the third quarter, but the Cats were limited to a Mallory Mathes basket. Mathes and Francis had the only FHS points in the fourth, as South Iron increased its lead.

Francis finished the game with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Mathes scored nine points, Kayleigh Slinkard, Burrows, Davis, and Glore each scored two points. Mattie Whitworth had a free throw.
