SCOTT CITY - Buchheit Logistics, the regional leader in transportation and warehousing is pleased to announce its participation in Wreaths Across America for a third year.
Buchheit Logistics is honored to haul two loads of wreaths destined for locations in Southeast Missouri from Bloomfield to St. Louis as well as locations in Springfield, Illinois, Collinsville, Illinois, and Mound City, Illinois. Marine Corps veteran Robert Fudge of Salem, Missouri and Army veteran Don Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri will be the tip of the spear in this year’s efforts to honor our fallen veterans having been chosen to drive and represent Buchheit Logistics and their fellow veterans. This journey would not be possible without the generosity of our sponsors, Missouri Great Dane and Cline Wood Insurance Company.
“Having many veterans as part of our team, we are honored to recognize the service of all who have put on a uniform in the service of our country”, Ron Gjerstad, Air Force Veteran and President of Buchheit Logistics.
Wreaths Across America started in 1992 when Worcester Wreath Company’s owner Morrill Worcester found himself with a surplus of wreaths. Remembering a boyhood experience at Arlington, Worcester realized he had an opportunity to honor our country’s veterans. With the aid of Maine Senator, Olympia Snowe, arrangements were made for the wreaths to be placed at Arlington.
In 2007, the Worcester family, along with veterans, and other groups and individuals who had helped with their annual veterans’ wreath ceremony in Arlington, formed Wreaths Across America; a non-profit 501-(c)(3) organization, to continue and expand this effort, and support other groups around the country who wanted to do the same. The mission of the group is simple: Remember, Honor, Teach.
In 2015, Wreaths Across America and its national network of volunteers laid over 700,000 memorial wreaths at 1,000 locations in the United States and beyond, including ceremonies at the Pearl Harbor Memorial, as well as Bunker Hill, Valley Forge and the sites of the Sept. 11 tragedies. This was accomplished with help from 2,047 fundraising groups, corporate contributions, and donations of trucking, shipping, and thousands of helping hands.
WAA is committed to teaching younger generations about the value of their freedoms, and the importance of honoring those who sacrificed so much to protect those freedoms.
Wreath Laying Ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 16 at locations across the country. Locally, you may attend an event at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri or at Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Illinois.
