Neighbors accuse man of trespassing

IRON MOUNTAIN LAKE – An Iron Mountain Lake man was arrested Saturday night for trespassing.

According to the Iron Mountain Lake Police Department, witnesses claim a 45-year-old man with binoculars was sitting in the back seat of his vehicle in front of his home watching a group of children ages 13 and under who were sitting around a campfire.

&#8220It was a strange case,” said Iron Mountain Lake Police Chief Jerry Hicks. &#8220Witnesses said the man denied the incident when he was confronted. Our department was then called to investigate.”

Hicks said when Sergeant Sheri Ketcherside arrived on the scene the man claimed he was no where in the area at that time.

&#8220Evidence proved otherwise,” Hicks said. &#8220Witnesses said the man went into the weeds with his binoculars in the neighbor’s adjoining backyard. While investigating the situation we received another phone call that the man was in close proximity to the complaining party’s backyard. We returned to the residence of the man and requested that he step outside. After several attempts to get the man to come to the door, he finally answered. We placed him under arrest for trespassing in the first degree.”

Hicks said the man was transported to the St. Francois County Jail.

In other matters at Iron Mountain Lake, Hicks said he wants to remind residents that the Iron Mountain Lake Board of Aldermen has not passed an ordinance allowing for permits for dirt bikes and ATVs.

&#8220Dirt bikes and ATVs are not allowed on streets or roads at Iron Mountain Lake,” Hicks said. &#8220Anyone caught riding one will be ticketed. The board is looking at an ordinance that will allow for permits, but it has not been passed yet.”

Hicks said on April 21 the Youth For Christ organization will be assisting in a community wide cleanup.

&#8220We want to get our community cleaned up,” Hicks said. &#8220People that have trash in their yards need to get rid of it. Derelict vehicles need to be disposed of. We are going to start ticketing property owners who don’t keep their properties up.”

Iron Mountain Lake is in the process of constructing its first dog pound.

&#8220We really need this,” Hicks said. &#8220It’s been slow in coming, but it is on it’s way. This will help take care of the stray pets running loose. Residents need to take responsibility for their animals or they will get a ticket.”
