The Farmington Kiwanis Club with the help of the High School Key Club, began to “BUG” Jefferson, Roosevelt and Washington-Franklin third graders at the start of the school year. Their efforts were so successful, that during the May 25th honors ceremonies at the three schools, 262 third graders were recognized for their academic success and participation in the Kiwanis Bring Up Grades (BUG) program. Each student was presented with a special BUG T-shirt at the ceremony.
This is the first time the local Kiwanis Club sponsored the program that focuses on developing good study habits and motivating students to elevate their grades throughout the school year. With support from the school administration, the commitment of the third grade teachers and Mrs. Kim Amsdsen, the BUG program had an extremely successful year. For more information about the BUG program, visit www. bringupgrades.org.
Generous financial support for the BUG T-shirts was provided by First Bank, Krekeler Jewelers, Seth Pegram, Attorney at Law, First State Financial Management, Audiology & Hearing Center of Farmington, Belgrade State Bank & Wise Grounds Coffee Shop, Raymond James Financial Services, Citizens Chiropractic Center, First State Community Bank, Mineral Area College, Ozarks Federal Savings & Loan, and Famiglias’. Two hundred seventy-five BUG shirts will be seen around the community in the coming weeks, worn by proud students. When you see one, take a moment to congratulate the third graders for their accomplishments.
The local Kiwanis meet each Wednesday at noon at Pasta House in Farmington. Anyone interested in joining Kiwanis or learning more about this service club, is welcome to attend a meeting. Visit the Farmington Kiwanis website at www.farmingtonkiwanis.org.
