According to the probable cause statement, Deputy Matt Rion of the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department initiated a traffic stop on Olive Road in Park Hills for a window tinting violation. The vehicle was being driven by Bales.

During the traffic stop, a St. Francois County K-9 unit had a positive alert for drugs on the vehicle. When a K-9 unit has a positive alert on a vehicle, this automatically gives an officer consent to search the automobile.

According to the court document, during the search of the vehicle, the deputies recovered 486 grams of methamphetamine, 430 grams of marijuana, and 6 grams of cocaine. All of the seized items tested positive by a “Trunarc” machine by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

In addition to the controlled substances, the report states that deputies discovered $15,500 in U.S. currency and a glass pipe, normally used for use of meth that contained residue. All of the items were collected and stored in a secure evidence locker.

Bales has pending charges from April 2018 for drug trafficking in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm. In addition, Bales has separate felony stealing charges for amount over $750 pending from October 2018. Bales also has pending charges for drug trafficking in the first degree and unlawful use of a weapon from November 2017.
