Charges filed in Monday night "stabbing" incident


A Farmington woman is in jail following what was reported as a stabbing on Monday night in Desloge.

Samantha Hemsath-Haas, 30, of Farmington, has been charged with domestic assault in the first degree and armed criminal action. She is currently being held at the St. Francois County Jail on a $100,000 bond with conditions that she must have a GPS monitor and no contact with the victim.

Desloge Police Chief James Bullock said an officer was standing outside the police station located at 1000 N. Desloge Drive when a vehicle pulled into the parking lot.

According to the officer, a 33-year-old male got out of the vehicle on the passenger side and was bleeding. The victim reported that he had been stabbed by the female passenger identified as Hemsath-Haas, who was his girlfriend.

Bullock said that the driver of the vehicle witnessed the incident and said that Hemsath-Haas lunged forward a couple of times while he was driving. It was after that he realized his male passenger was wounded.

According to the officer, the victim had two 4-inch lacerations and another laceration that was 1.5 inches long. The lacerations were all approximately one-half inch wide.

A hatchet and knife were reportedly found in the vehicle. It has been learned the knife was used in the alleged assault.

Hemsath-Haas was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Francois County Jail.
