With Mineral Area College's Red Homecoming coming up on Saturday, final preparations are already well underway for year's event.

"It's going to be our best one ever," said MAC Director of Development Kevin Thurman. "This year’s basketball are going to have our men’s and women’s teams battling against the State Fair Roadrunners. We're expecting some exciting games since our men are ranked one of the top teams in the country and the women have also shown signs of playing very well."

The Lady Cardinals take on State Fair at 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for youths. Halftime entertainment will be provided by the MAC Cheerleaders’ Mini Cheer camp. Between the games, Kirby the Cardinal will make an appearance before the men’s basketball game against State Fair at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for youths, or free for those who already paid to attend the women’s basketball game.

"We're hoping for a field house full of red-shirted Cardinal fans to pump up MAC spirit," Thurman said. "For those who don't have a red shirt to wear, we've got free 'Red Out' T-shirts that we're going to be handing out at the gate. It'll be first come, first serve. We have about 700 to hand out. If you want a certain size you better get there early. The gates open at 4 p.m."

According to Thurman, the T-shirts are being provided at no cost by this year’s sponsors, Park Hills River Mart; Magic Basketball Academy; MTC Truck Driver Training; Missouri Baptist University in Farmington; Heimburger Construction, Inc.; Skeeter Kell Sporting Goods; University of Missouri-St. Louis; Athletico Physcial Therapy; Central Methodist University; and MAC Student Activities.

"In addition to the games, we're going to have music, games and other activities for the entire family," Thurman said. "The Jazz Band, under the direction of Michael Goldsmith, is going to be playing between the games and at halftime. Red Bird Revolution's going to be there and at halftime, the cheerleaders will be performing.

"We're also going to be hosting our alumni in the private dining room where MAC and Flat River Junior College yearbooks will be available in the dining room off the gym and a photo booth will be set up nearby. After the game, the kids are will be invited to join Kirby the Cardinal and Athletic Director Mike Overman on the gym floor to shoot some hoops like a MAC Cardinal. There will be something for everyone, so come out and support the MAC Cardinals."
