Tailgating with free hot dogs, chips and drinks, meeting the Mineral Area College athletes and a chance to win free tuition for spring semester will be part of the evening’s fun during Mineral Area College’s annual Midnight Madness, which takes place beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Robert E. Sechrest Sr. Field House.
The evening is sponsored by MAC Athletics and MAC Student Activities.
Jim Gerwitz, the community college’s athletic director, said he’s excited to highlight MAC’s nationally-ranked women’s volleyball team as they play against MSU West Plains.
“This game will be a pivotal game in Region IX play,” he said. “Midnight Madness is also a great opportunity for our loyal Cardinal fans to get an early preview and introduction to our men’s and women’s basketball teams for the 2018-2019 season.”
The evening is open to everyone. Tailgating will begin in front of the Sechrest Field House at 5 p.m., first come, first served. The volleyball game against MSU West Plains begins at 6:30 p.m. After the game, the crowd will be introduced to the men’s and women’s basketball players, the cheerleaders and Kirby.
Other activities set for the night include three-point and slam dunk competitions that include a shot for someone to win free tuition for the upcoming spring semester.
MAC’s Bookstore, the official purveyor of MAC Cardinal spirit wear, is offering special-edition T-shirts and hoodies which will be discounted for students by 10 percent if they mention they saw the offer in their email. Anyone who can’t pick up their shirt before the game can buy it at the match beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
