On Saturday morning, the National Weather Service issued a Wind Chill Advisory that will remain in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday through noon Tuesday for portions of southeast Missouri, as well as south central and southwest Illinois.
Bitterly cold wind chills are expected with wind chills falling into the 15-20 below zero range at times. The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 20 minutes to exposed skin.
A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chill values. This will result in frostbite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves, making sure all exposed skin is covered.
