BONNE TERRE -- Donald Ray Hanners, 87, of Terre Du Lac passed away February 1, 2018, at Presbyterian Manor in Farmington. He was born August 17, 1930, in St. Louis. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, and was a scholarship football player, playing in the 1949 Gator Bowl. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from which he retired as a Colonel. Donald was a member of the Terre Du Lac Country Club and Mineral Area Community Elks #2583. He coached and taught at several Missouri High Schools - Marceline, Richmond, and in St. Louis, Maplewood and Mehlville. He was the first President of the Missouri Athletic Directors Association and received the first Director of the Year Award.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rayford and Ama (Allen) Hanners; wife, Judith (Becker) Hanners; second wife, Shirley (Robertson) Hanners.
Donald is survived by two daughters, Susan Hanners-Stead and husband Ed of Orlando, Florida, and Sally Alderson and husband Steve of Fisherville, Kentucky; two step daughters, Cindy Simms and Dana Tuell; two grandchildren, Robin Stead and Stephen Alderson.
Visitation will be Monday, February 5, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre. Service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the C. Z. Boyer & Son Chapel in Bonne Terre. Interment with full military honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
