TROY, Mo. -- Richard "Rick" Rhodes, 62, of Troy, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017. He was born on July 10, 1955, in Poplar Bluff, to Dr. Jerry and Lois Rhodes. Rick grew up in the Farmington area with his two brothers: Mick and Rodney. After graduating from the local schools, he attended Central Methodist Universtity where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree. While attending college, Rick played baseball and football. During his first teaching job at Bowling Green, Rick met Debra Sachs. They were later married on December 26, 1980 in St. Clement. To this union were born two children: Brooke and Austin. After working at Bowling Green as a teacher and football coach, Rick went on to work at Mizzou working with the football team doing strengthening and conditioning. The Rhodes family then moved to Coffeyville, Kansas for a teaching job. In 1983, Rick took a position as teacher and football coach at the Lincoln County R-III School District; and he worked there for 22 years. Rick influenced many young peoples' lives in Lincoln County. If you or a family member attended Lincoln Co R-III School District, you probably have a memory involving Coach Rhodes. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing at Wood's Fort and was an enthusiastic fan for Mizzou Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Debra Rhodes of Troy; two children, Brooke Rhodes Carl of Troy, Austin and wife Courtney Rhodes of Troy; three grandchildren, Connor Rhodes, Allie Rhodes and Harper Carl; his mother, Lois Rhodes of Farmington; two brothers, Michael and wife Kris Rhodes of Kansas City, Dr. Rodney and wife Katie Rhodes of Farmington; his father and mother-in-law, Bob and Dorothy Sachs of Bowling Green and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Jerry Rhodes.
Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, December 31, 2017, at McCoy-Blossom Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1304 Boone Street in Troy, Missouri. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 1, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Troy with Father Tom Wissler officiating. Interment to follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Troy.
