The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate a fire after several agencies responded to Old Irondale Road for a trailer fire Monday evening.

Bismarck Fire Chief John Colwell said they were called to a house fire at 8 p.m. Monday and when they arrived the home was engulfed in flames.

“It was a single-wide trailer fully involved when crews arrived and the home was unoccupied,” said Colwell. “The home had been abandoned for more than a year so there was no one home at the time of the fire.”

He said they were able to get the fire under control within an hour and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“We did call the fire marshal’s office out because it was suspicious in nature,” said Colwell. “There was no electric hooked up to the home. There was significant damage throughout the entire home and it was a total loss. The structure is still standing, but it was extensively damaged.”

Irondale, Farmington, Leadwood, Leadington, Pilot Knob, Park Hills and Doe Run Fire Departments assisted with the fire. The St. Francois County Ambulance District also responded to the area to be on-hand in case they were needed.
