Best and brightest’ to be featured at Country Days

With its 2014 theme “Fun in the Sun,” the 36th annual Farmington Country Days will feature a few of country music’s brightest new recording artists.

Organizers have announced that main stage concerts will include breakout artists Sam Hunt, Michael Ray, Native Run, and Old Dominion — each of which festival organizers believe will bring an exciting summer sound and a groove to make the June festival feel like an epic backyard party.

Farmington Country Days will take place June 5-8, and mainstage concerts will close activities on those Friday and Saturday nights.

“We’ve had great reviews over the years bringing in artists who are on the brink of amazing success,” said Doug McDermott, president/CEO of the Farmington Regional Chamber of Commerce which organizes the festival. “This year’s roster of performers includes some of the best and brightest new recording artists.”

McDermott said that country music as a genre is very diverse, and this year’s lineup reflects that variety, offering different styles of today’s country.

“The way people find great songs and artists has changed so much in recent years with the emergence of digital music,” McDermott said. “Lyric videos, television competitions and social media sharing have brought great talent to light and given them a broader audience.”

McDermott said that the festival Web site, www.farmingtoncountrydays. com, is a portal where visitors can listen and download the music they’ll hear at the festival and find times for specific concerts.

“When folks check out videos and bios of Sam, Michael, Bryan and Rachel (of Native Run), and the guys from Old Dominion, they’ll be able to relate to them and appreciate where they come from and what they’re bringing to the music scene,” McDermott said. “Even though these are emerging acts, they’ll recognize some tremendous songwriting credits among the group.”

Most notably Hunt cowrote Kenny Chesney’s #1 single “Come Over” and “Cop Car,” recently released by Keith Urban, and songwriting credits among Old Dominion’s members include, The Band Perry’s “Better Dig Two” and Craig Morgan’s “Wake Up Loving You,” among others.

Additional local supporting acts will be announced in the future.

The full festival schedule is available at farmingtoncountrydays. com and will be updated as individual activities and concerts are confirmed.

Mainstage concerts are sponsored by Auffenberg GM Superstore, Centene Corporation, First State Community Bank, and Parkland Health Center.
