United Way accepting grant applications

The United Way of St. Francois County begins its 2005-06 grant application process on April 11. Not-for-profit organizations that deal in human services may apply for grants by submitting the completed forms postmarked no later than May 20.

Applications are available from the County Clerk’s office, located in the St. Francois County Courthouse, or by calling 756-2248 and requesting an application to be mailed. All applications must be returned to Untied Way of St. Francois County, Inc.; PMB 184, 770 Market Street, Farmington, Mo., 63640 by the deadline.

To be eligible for a grant, applicants must be a not-for-profit corporation; have IRS and State of Missouri income tax exempt status, offer human service programs, provide services based on documented need, be non-discriminatory as to age, race, sex, religion, and national origin, have sound financial and program management, be represented by an active board of directors and agree to provide timely financial and program information.

Grants may be submitted to cover one year only and checks will be presented in January 2006 to those organizations whose applications are approved.

Organizations whose applications are accepted will be notified either by phone or mail and should be prepared to have a representative appear before the full board of the local United Way on June 21. Each presentation is limited to five minutes followed by a brief question and answer period. Each applicant will receive a time for their presentation to be made between 3-6 p.m.
