MESA, Ariz. – Mineral Area sophomore Tyler Fieser finished the four-day NJCAA Division II golf championship Friday at 18 shots over par.
His cumulative score of 302 earned a three-way tie for 36th place out of 137 participants at Longbow Golf Club.
Fieser bookended the event with his best rounds of 74 on Tuesday and Friday, and gained eight spots on the leaderboard over the last 18 holes.
He finished at par through the first three holes during day two, but went four-over the span of 17 and 18 to end at 75. Fieser was faced with a minor setback following a plus-eight 79 performance on Thursday.
Colin Troxler of Mississippi Gulf Coast claimed national medalist honors as the lone individual to play under par at 282. Noah Hofman of Southeast was runner-up with a score of 286.
Troxler and Hofman matched each other on each of the final three days, but a four-shot advantage on opening day gave Troxler the upper hand.
Feiser concludes his stint at Mineral Area with a selection to the PING all-region team, the all-Region 16 team, and two national tournament appearances.
He was the lone Mineral Area representative at the tournament, and improved from last year's outcome of 57th place.
