CENTRALIA, Ill. – Kaskaskia swept a softball doubleheader over visiting Mineral Area on Tuesday by final margins of 6-2 and 13-9.
The Blue Angels extended a 2-0 lead with four runs on five hits in the fourth inning against MAC starter Alyssa Rennick. Each team finished with nine hits overall in game one.
Abbi Sampson singled twice to match Rennick offensively, but the Lady Cardinals squandered a leadoff triple from Desiree Thomas in the top of the second.
Rennick connected for an RBI single, and later scored on an error as Mineral Area amassed its only two runs in the fifth inning.
Skye Batchelor doubled in the seventh while Kelly McMahon, Kati McCormack and Brittany Adams each provided one single for MAC.
Rennick finished with five strikeouts to equal the total by winning hurler Makayla Lane. Jordan Stiegman had two hits and Hannah Hoffmann scored twice for Kaskaskia.
Seven players generated multiple hits in the second contest for the Blue Angels, who restored an early 9-7 lead after each club pushed six runs across the dish during a wild second inning.
Hoffmann finished 3-for-4, including a double and triple, while Cali Burgess and Stiegman tallied three singles apiece in the victory.
McMahon drilled a bases-clearing triple after the Lady Cardinals drew five consecutive walks, and Rennick added two hits with two runs scored.
Lexi Adams had an RBI single in the seventh, and Sampson added a single with one run scored. Alyssa Sago suffered the loss from the circle.
Mineral Area (10-33-1) will host Dyersburg State for two games at noon on Wednesday.
