Holly Forbes continues to be recognized for the strong start to her freshman season with the Mineral Area women’s basketball program.

The North County High School graduate and center for the Lady Cardinals was a repeat choice for Region 16 Player of the Week as announced on Tuesday morning.

Forbes scored 25 points and added eight rebounds, two steals and two assists on Saturday in an 81-79 road loss at John A. Logan in the lone contest on the MAC schedule last week.

She helped the Lady Cardinals grab an early 11-4 lead in that game, and made 8-of-9 shots from the field during the first half before finishing 12-of-16 overall.

Forbes, standing 5-9, has netted 20 points in six games for 8-3 Mineral Area while often guarded by multiple or larger players near the basket.

She also averages 9.2 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game to lead the team, and is second in assists. Her 67.1 shooting percentage currently ranks sixth in the nation.

Forbes’ previous Player of the Week award accounted for performance spanning three games, including 32 points and 16 rebounds at home against Arkansas Baptist.

Mineral Area will return to action at home on Jan. 1 against Malcolm X.
