HILLSBORO, Mo. – A stunning four-minute stretch turned a precarious situation into a comfortable and valuable road victory for the Mineral Area women on Wednesday.
Holly Forbes converted two 3-point plays, and netted 10 points during a clubbing 18-0 spurt to being the fourth quarter as the Lady Cardinals topped Jefferson 65-44.
Madison Reynolds buried two perimeter threes while adding her 10 points exclusively in the final stanza, and Mineral Area increased a 37-30 lead to 55-30 in a hurry.
Forbes finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Ella Gobald and Makenzy Smith tallied 11 points each in the victory.
Mineral Area (14-8, 4-3) limited Jefferson (5-14, 0-6) to just 17 percent shooting in the first half to establish a 28-14 lead before being outscored 16-9 in the third quarter.
Reynolds had seven assists, and was among four Lady Cardinals to log at least 30 minutes with three players either injured or sick.
Kayla Juenger had 12 points, and Shannyn Triplett compiled 11 points with 14 rebounds to pace the Vikings.
The Lady Cardinals picked up eight points from Lainey Bell and six from Mary Katherine Tucker ahead of a road trip to Crowder on Saturday.
