Mineral Area freshman guard Shelby Moon was named Region 16 Division I women's basketball Player of the week following a 73-53 victory at home against Three Rivers on Saturday.
She went 7-of-11 from long distance, and shot 56.3 percent from the field to finish with a season-high 25 points. Six rebounds and five assists were also added during her 29 minutes on the floor.
Moon stepped into the spotlight to earn the award after sophomore teammate Hayley Winter held the honor last week.
Three Rivers had emerged as a powerhouse in the region despite dealing with key injuries, and entered the game with sole possession of first place.
Mineral Area encountered a 35-point loss to the Raiders in their previous meeting, but the Lady Cardinals played with a fury in the rematch.
Moon was a Class 2 all-state player at Neelyville High School.
