Central 72, De Soto 57

PARK HILLS – Sophomore Breven McMullen scored 16 of his 24 points before halftime, and the Central boys basketball team defeated 72-57 despite missing two starters on Friday night.

Keandre Mesa capitalized on increased minutes to match teammate Brent Wagner with 14 points each for the Rebels (4-2), who moved into halftime holding a 34-28 lead.

Central was without senior guard Wade Scherffius and forward Holden Mayberry due to the flu. Jake Casey and Will Hopkins added seven points each to the win.

Austin West netted 15 points, Aaron Perron chipped in 14 and Brett Gibbs had 11 for De Soto.

Cape Central 45, Farmington 44

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Chauncey Hughes scored on the run with about 30 seconds left, and Cape Central coaxed a missed Farmington shot to sneak away with a 45-44 victory.

Austin Parker threw down a dunk in the second quarter, and netted a game-high 19 points for the Tigers (6-1), who were clinging to a 19-17 halftime edge after both offenses hit a prolonged struggle.

Brendon Hardy knocked down four jumpers during the fourth quarter while tallying 14 points for the Knights (2-4), but his last attempt landed short with five seconds left.

The fourth quarter featured six lead changes, starting with a Hardy basket on the opening possession for a 33-32 advantage.

Tyrus Reddin finished on a fast break to give Cape Central a 43-40 edge, but Cameron Friend drained a fading jumper for Farmington.

Bryce Sancegraw added a go-ahead layup after Tycen Gray provided a block at the defensive end, but was answered by Hughes, who ended with nine points while teammate Kinyon Hodges had eight.

Gray compiled 13 points with eight rebounds for Farmington, which fell into a field-goal drought that spanned seven minutes after the first quarter concluded in a 14-14 tie.

Arcadia Valley 65, Crystal City 35

IRONTON – Carter Brogan netted a game-high 15 points, and Arcadia Valley landed 11 players in the scoring column during a 65-35 home victory over Crystal City.

Jeremiah Moore finished with 14 points plus six rebounds for the Tigers (4-4), who surged ahead 29-13 by halftime and followed with a 21-point third quarter.

Takota Jones added 10 points, and Peyton Whited dished out five assists.

Brady DeGeare scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half, while Chris Eisenbeis had 10 more for Crystal City.

Meadow Heights 71, Bismarck 28

BISMARCK – Unbeaten Meadow Heights built a 26-point lead by halftime, and improved to 7-0 with a 71-28 trouncing of host Bismarck.

Trent Lilly scored a game-high 23 points for the Panthers, who surrendered single digits during the first half for a 34-8 separation at intermission.

Hunter Drake tallied nine points for Bismarck (2-7).


Valley 56, Crystal City 46

CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. – Madison Lucas totaled 19 points, and the Valley girls basketball team overcame a shooting lull to beat Crystal City 56-46 and complete a perfect 4-0 week.

Lexie Black finished with 16 points for the Lady Vikings (7-3), who posted a modest 5-point halftime lead while playing for the fourth time in five nights.

Emma Rosener scored 13 points and Liz Morris contributed eight to the win. Valley lost starting forward Emma Beers to a knee injury in the second quarter.

Lucas averaged 23 points per game for the week, including a career-high 40 Tuesday against Viburnum.
