CHAFFEE, Mo. – Senior infielder Allee Drennen homered, Ivy Meinershagen pitched a three-hitter, and the West County softball team pulled a second bracket upset in Class 2, District 2 on Wednesday.

Haylee Watson doubled and scored in the second inning, and the fifth-seeded Lady Bulldogs ousted No. 1 seed and tournament host Chaffee 2-1 in the semifinal round.

West County (7-11) will face Kelly (14-8) on Thursday in pursuit of a sixth consecutive district title and first since making the transition from spring to fall competition.

Meinershagen allowed her only run in the fifth inning on a two-out, RBI single by Bailey Weisman, and finished with five strikeouts in her second complete game of the day.

Her third walk opened the bottom of the sixth, but two strikeouts helped to erase the Chaffee threat. A perfect seventh was capped by a game-ending fly ball to right fielder Chloe Young.

Drennen made it 2-0 with a solo shot to left field with one out in the fourth. Makenzie Simily singled and stole a base, and Meinershagen added another hit for the Lady Bulldogs.

Sydney Walker compiled eight strikeouts and yielded four hits in a hard-luck loss for the Red Devils (13-11). She faced three batters above the minimum, and retired 16 of her last 18.

West County 12, Jefferson 7

CHAFFEE, Mo. – West County played its tournament opener earlier on Wednesday, and avenged a loss against fourth-seeded Jefferson after producing eight runs in the fourth inning.

Jenna Simily notched three RBI, matching Makenzie Simily by going 2-for-5 with a double, and the Lady Bulldogs prevailed 12-7 behind 10 strikeouts from Ivy Meinershagen.

Kaelin Hedgcorth and Megan Perkins drew back-to-back walks in the fourth as West County trailed 2-1. Hannah Myers followed with the first of her two singles.

Haylee Watson provided a go-ahead, two-run double, and subsequent hits by Makenzie Simily, Jenna Simily and Hedgcorth created a 9-2 advantage as 13 batters stepped to the plate.

Jefferson countered with two tallies in the home half of the fourth, and scored three more following two errors in the sixth before Meinershagen fanned back-to-back hitters to maintain a 9-7 edge.

Allee Drennen collected two hits with two runs scored for West County, which posted three runs in response after Watson and Chloe Young began the seventh with singles.

Meinershagen surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and two walks in the win, and equaled Hedgcorth at the dish with a single while scoring twice.

Abi Chipps went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored, while Cameron Menke smacked a double and single for Jefferson (7-16).
