FARMINGTON – Dakota Rulo was forced to work overtime for a thrilling victory that nearly occurred several minutes earlier on Tuesday night.

The Farmington wrestler cleaned pinned opponent Austin Aubuchon as the first period ended, but the horn sounded just before the official’s hand slapped the mat to record the fall.

Aubuchon responded with a flurry that included an immediate takedown and near fall of his own, and the ingredients were in place for a show-stealing match at Black Knight Fieldhouse.

Rulo surrendered a reversal late in the third period, but escaped with two seconds left to send the 152-pound bout into overtime tied at 11-11.

He then needed just 24 seconds to secure the fall on Aubuchon after already securing a takedown that had clinched at least a sudden victory.

Dalton Berg (220) added a fall that only required one takedown and 38 seconds, and Farmington went on to defeat Poplar Bluff 47-27 after getting past Waynesville 42-38 in earlier action.

Smokey Branch (138), Ian Asher (145) and Robbie Simmons (126) pinned their respective foes while Kaden Shipley and Austin Wadlow received forfeits from the Mules.

Dylan Allen (170) yielded only one escape point while rolling up a 16-1 technical fall at the 5:53 mark as Farmington improved to 10-2 in duals.

Kael Krause (160) nearly grabbed another win for Farmington, but Xavier Bartlett blocked his final lunge to earn a 1-0 decision.

The Knights had 11 contested matches with Waynesville and gained six crucial points on forfeits as the Tigers were open at two weights.

Wadlow (106) sealed the pivotal win in the final bout as his team trailed 38-36. He was on pace for a major decision, but put away Thomas Brady with a fall 30 seconds into the third period.

Kyle Crawford (113) and Simmons began the dual with consecutive falls in favor of Farmington. Krause and Berg also provided pins.

Waynesville was dominant in the middle of the card, notching 26 points on five straight wins.
