Hoop Shoot Wright

West County representative Gracie Wright made 21-of-25 free throws last Sunday to win the championship of the Southeast District Elks Hoop Shoot contest in the girls 12-13 year old division. Wright advances to the state competition on Feb. 3 at Kirkwood North Middle School.

FREDERICKTOWN – Six recent winners from the No. 2583 Lodge local contest returned to competition on Sunday at the Southeast District Elks Hoop Shoot contest.

West County representative Gracie Wright delivered a stellar performance at 84 percent to capture the girls 12-13 year old division title.

Wright sank 21-of-25 free throws, and advanced to the Missouri Elks state Hoop Shoot finals on Feb. 3 at Kirkwood North Middle School in St. Louis County.

Sydney Miles from Central finished as district runner-up in the girls 10-11 division.

Rhenn Mapes (Central), Kirhianna Brockington (West County) and Lucas Whitehead (Central) placed third in their respective divisions. Garrisson Turner of West County was fourth.

State champions will qualify for regional completion in Paris, Tenn., with the national meet set for April in Chicago. National winners have their names inscribed in a plaque at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
