Presiding commissioner receives two awards
Presiding Commissioner Dr. David Cramp received awards and recognition at the annual Truman Dinner on May 3. The event was hosted by the St. Francois County Democratic Central Committee.
Dr. Cramp was presented a plaque for serving the county since 2009. He has chosen to retire from the position. Cramp is also retired after five years as superintendent for the Farmington school system.
Cramp was lauded with the Ray Black Award which acknowledges a dedicated Democrat. This award is presented by the St. Francois County Democrat Club.
Cramp said the Republicans have Lincoln Day and the Democrats have Truman Day.
“It’s an annual gathering of people that all get together. It was kind of a farewell tour I guess. It was a nice night for me and I didn’t have any idea I was getting anything. I was just having fried chicken, relaxing and kicking back wondering who’s going to get the awards.” Cramp continued. “They combined the two awards and they have never done that before. I received two plaques and it was really nice. I really appreciate the Democrat Central Committee being so kind.”
Emcee and committee member, Ron Bockenkamp, introduced Barry Aycock who was the guest speaker. Aycock is a Southeast Missouri cotton farmer and consultant. His company serves more than 30 states and 14 countries. He explained how the fairness of Democratic policies allowed him to expand to a $25 million international company.
Bockenkamp then presented crystal Truman mugs to deserving Democrats. Democratic committee secretary, Sheila Blackwell, and treasurer, Judy Pritchett, were recognized for many years of service.
Laura Byron was gifted with a mug for being the newest member of the committee and Jeff Fort from St. Louis was shown gratitude for his support.
Democratic and Republican Central Committees are mandated by the State of Missouri. All members are listed online by logging on to State of Missouri.gov.
