100 Years – April 10, 1924
Another small stretch of the west road is to be contracted forthwith, according to official notice sent us this week. The contract, which is to be awarded in Jefferson City on April 22, is for 1,606 miles, beginning where the present section ends and extending westwardly toward the river.
The Farm Bureau work is going along very nicely according to County Agent Mallinekrodt. The program of work is being followed very closely so that not much time can be given to miscellaneous work or to individual service work. More lasting effects are being accomplished by having the work on the community demonstration basis.
An annual loss of approximately $62.50 is suffered by every automobile owner in Madison County and in Missouri on gasoline, tires and general upkeep of cars on account of the state roads being unfinished, according to a statement made Tuesday by Chief Engineer Piepmeier of the Highway Department.
Mrs. Paul Brown, a leading Methodist layman of the St. Louis Conference, a member of St. John’s Church, St. Louis, has written a letter to Mrs. Ruth Barnes, the president of Marvin College, at Fredericktown, Missouri, making a contribution of fifty thousand dollars on the condition that she raise fifty thousand dollars in the next ninety days.

The mining operations of the Park City Consolidated Mines Co. in the vicinity of Fredericktown came to a halt Monday after officials of the company dismissed, at least temporarily, about 50 men.

(photo) The remains of the 1938 Ford, belonging to Stanton Pirtle, is shown above just before it was removed from in front of the Dew Drop Inn to the car mortuary at the DeSpain Motor Service. The Ford was one of three automobiles taking part in a collision three miles north of Fredericktown in which two persons were seriously injured.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert O. Grounds celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary Sunday, April 3.
50 Years – April 11, 1974

Two Madison County Deputy Sheriffs, Jim Goldsberry and Ron Shell, were responsible early Saturday morning for the arrest of two men who have been charged with possession of marijuana in excess of 35 grams.

(photo) Raging fires destroyed two homes Sunday, less than two miles apart in the Cherokee Pass area. Homes owned by Earl Hutcheson and Hershel Spain were completely razed by fire at about 11 a.m. and midnight respectively
Thanks to a clutch three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh by Capt. Tim Drennan, Fredericktown’s Rod Denman won his first game of the season last Tuesday for the University of Missouri Tigers.
25 Years – April 14, 1999

(photo) Governor Mel Carnahan Monday asked President Clinton to issue a federal disaster declaration for Individual Assistance as a result of the recent severe flooding in Fredericktown and rural areas of Madison County. The concentration of damage in Fredericktown and Madison County could result in as much as $3 million in disaster assistance.
On March 27, 1999, Adam McClure, KT Altergott, Derik Rulo, Bethany Bearden, Danny Johnson, Devin Cook, Travis Snow, and Alan Grenier traveled to the Wappapello Engineer Training Site for rappelling. These Fredericktown High School students are all cadets in the Junior ROTC Battalion.

(photo) Patricia Poe receives an award for three years of outstanding service to the Senior Citizens of Madison County. She is the Head Cook and serves both the Fredericktown and Marquand Senior Centers.
On April 8, 1999, approximately 125 Fredericktown High School Juniors attended the 2nd Annual Mineral Area Activities Association sponsored College/Career Fair at the Farmington Civic Center. Over 180 careers were represented with over 80 colleges in attendance also.
