100 YEARS AGO – February 18, 1926
S.W. Hale and Mrs. Mary Jane Skaggs, both of the Shetleys Creek vicinity, were married here last Thursday, Judge McFarland officiating. Mr. Hale gave the recorder his age as 76, while his bride confessed to 74 summers. This one of the oldest couples married here for many years.
Mr. Campbell, geologist for the National Lead Co. was in the county the first of the week securing some additional options on land lying between the Harrison White farm and Castor River. Every report indicates that the National has found some good lead indications on its options to the east of the White place and the company evidently plans to prospect the territory pretty thoroughly toward Castor.
Feeling that if the new school plant is to be ready for use next September, a start must be made on the construction program in the very near future, the school board has been holding a series of meetings on the problem.
The commission, consisting of Fred Bollinger of Greenville, and Fred Bunyard and Fred Wilkinson of the Damon neighborhood, which was recently appointed by the county court for the purpose of assessing valuations on the lands which had been condemned as right of way for state highway No. 23, completed their work and filed a report with the county court on Tuesday of this week.
75 YEAS AGO – February 15, 1951

(Photo-1) One of the new band uniforms arrived this week for inspection by the school and the Parent-Teachers Association which sponsored the raising of funds for the purchase. Modeling the new uniform is Bob Moser, a band member. Bob will model the uniform at the Parent-Teacher Association meeting next Tuesday night.
The Marquand community has signed a contract with the Angelica Jacket Co. of St. Louis for the use of the building at Marquand which originally housed the Maisak-Handler Shoe Co. The contract was signed last week after negotiations had been underway for about a month.

(Photo-2) A native of Fredericktown, Mo, Aviation Cadet Charles L. Wagner, has recently reported to this base to begin an extensive course of training that will lead to his becoming a navigator-officer in the United States Air Force.
Fredericktown will be able to boast of another Fire truck in the near future if present plans of Fire Chief Marvin Graham and the volunteer fire department materialize. Authorization for the purchase of the second truck was given the department by the City Council at the regular meeting Monday night.
50 YEARS AGO – February 19, 1976

(Photo-3) Sorority Valentine Queens were named Saturday night at a ball sponsored by the three Beta Sigma Phi sororities in Fredericktown. New queens from the left seated are: Xi Beta Eta, Mrs. Maxine Eberhart; Nu Zeta, Mrs. Hilda Tinnin and Eta Eta, Mrs. Dorothy Brotherton. Retiring queens from the left: Mrs. Florence Wanner, Mrs. Conita Follis and Mrs. Judy Hasenbeck.
Mike Stevens, star forward on the Black Cat basketball team, was named all Mineral Area Activities Assn. this week. An 11-man team was named Saturday night during the finals of the conference tourney at Mineral Area College.

(Photo-4) One of these four Marquand-Zion High School students will be named Homecoming queen Friday night. The crowning of a queen will be one of the highlights of the basketball homecoming, as the Tigers tangle with Leopold. Candidates include: seated, freshman Dena Huffman; sophomore Anita Huffman. Standing from the left: junior Pam Johnson and junior Becky Spain.
Elder and Mrs. Rolla Gibson of Potosi are proud to announce the engagement of their eldest daughter, Deborah Lee to Larry Dale Griffin. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester (Bun) Griffon of Fredericktown. Debbie is a graduate of Potosi Senior High School and is presently employed in the office of Washington County Memorial Hospital in Potosi. Larry is a 1974 graduate of Fredericktown High School and is the manager of County Auto Parts in Potosi. An August wedding is being planned.

(Photo-5) We Have Lift-Off! The roof of the Saline Street Log Cabin is lifted off by a crane and workers and interested parties observe.
The Madison County Extension Council, along with University of Missouri Outreach and Extension, would like to introduce you to our new Livestock Specialist, Kendra Graham. Kendra will be working out of the Extension office located in the basement of the Wayne County Courthouse.

The Fredericktown High School Weightlifting Team won first place in the JV and Varsity divisions at a meet Thursday, February 15 at Farmington. In the Varsity division, the Cats had 340 points. Farmington was second with 95, next came Ste Genevieve 83, Perryville 71, Valle 54, Festus 40, Central 33, Kingston 10. In the JV division Fredericktown 160, Perryville 148, Farmington 142, Ste. Genevieve 83, Festus 82, Central 78, Valle 62.
