On February 20th, Afton and her father Richard traveled to Margaritaville in Osage Beach so that she could give her speech for Missouri Pork Producers.
Afton’s speech was for the Fall Public Speaking event. Speeches in this event must range from six to eight minutes in length, and are recited from memory. After presenting the speech, contestants are then asked questions to test their knowledge on the topic they chose.
Afton had previously placed first at both the area and district levels, and she was incredibly excited to have the opportunity to compete at the state level.
When asked about why she chose her speech on Missouri Afton said “It’s a very interesting topic. I found a lot of fascinating information while I was researching ideas for my speech, and overall it was a great opportunity for me to take part in.”
Even though Afton did not place first, she was extremely proud of the effort she had put into her speech, and the Fredericktown FFA chapter is also extremely proud of her hard work for making it to the state level.
