FREDERICKTOWN – The Potosi girls basketball team corrected a glaring error on Monday night that haunted its recent loss to Fredericktown at the Central Christmas Tournament.
The athleticism of six-foot forward Eden Robart was neutralized by a lack of sufficient touches in the low post, and a 10-game win streak evaporated on the Lady Trojans two weeks ago.
Robart was featured prominently throughout an impressive first half and beyond in the rematch, and powered Potosi with 29 points and 12 rebounds.
Aubree Wilson also starred with 10 points in the first quarter, among 19 overall, as the Lady Trojans prevailed 58-47 in the MAAA Large-School opener for both clubs.
Aniston Mapes delivered eight assists, six points and four steals, and guided an offense that committed only two turnovers on the way to a 40-22 halftime cushion.
Fredericktown regrouped to allow just four points in the third quarter, but could not whittle the margin below single digits.
P.J. Reutzel steadied the Lady Cats while totaling 25 points, seven rebounds and two steals overall. But her teammates are mostly contained with few fast-break opportunities.
Robart cashed in two rebounds for putbacks right away, and got the roll on a corner 3-pointer to fuel her fast start. Wilson also struck twice from the perimeter for a 23-13 lead after one quarter.
Potosi (11-2, 1-0) seemed to answer within seconds whenever Fredericktown (5-7, 0-1) produced a basket that could ignite a potential comeback prior to intermission.
Reutzel nailed a 3-pointer at 34-20 after Robart made an excellent catch to score along the low block, but Mapes zipped a midcourt pass on target as Robart beat the Lady Cats down the court.
Charis Moss attacked an open crease for a layup, and Reutzel drove for a 3-point play that made it 42-31 late in the third quarter.
Potosi netted just one field goal over a seven-minute stretch, but pushed its lead back to 50-34 when Mapes dished to Robart and Chloe Rowe assisted Wilson in the lane.
Presley Smith grabbed seven rebounds, and Rowe made three steals. The Lady Trojans attempted no free throws until sinking 6-of-6 in the final period.
Laila Stephens drilled two 3-pointers, and Calie Allgier matched her with six points for Fredericktown. Lauren Hale claimed eight rebounds.

St. Paul 58, Bayless 26
ST. LOUIS – Brooklyn Weibrecht amassed 25 points and 13 rebounds despite picking up two early fouls, and the St. Paul partnership with Valle Catholic topped Bayless 58-26 on Monday evening.
Reece Weiler added 11 points with five steals. Mia Sherrill, who recently signed with Westminster, compiled nine points and six rebounds for the Giants.
St. Paul (8-4) was slightly ahead 9-8 through one quarter, but immediately moved the ball inside to Weibrecht for three field goals during a 9-0 run.
Weiler added a 3-pointer, and Sherrill finished an inbounds play for an eventual 25-14 halftime edge. Six baskets by Weibrecht highlighted a 24-8 scoring edge in the third quarter.
Josie Berkerey triggered multiple fast breaks while notching six assists, and Juli Lunsford dished out four more for the Giants. Kelby Detring and Gwyn Keddy tossed in five points each.
Gracianaelle Ladouceur tallied nine points, and Mya Dodson added six for Bayless (6-4).
Jefferson 41, Ste. Genevieve 34
FESTUS, Mo. – Despite being slowed by 15 turnovers during the first half, Ste. Genevieve had four separate chances to either tie or lead down the stretch on Monday night.
Jefferson emerged with key stops in each of those situations, however, and netted the final five points to secure a 41-34 victory at home.
Halayna Loyd totaled 17 points with nine rebounds, and Louise Duepner produced 10 points plus a game-high six steals for the Blue Jays.
Jefferson (7-6) carried a 23-17 lead at halftime, and restored a 33-25 advantage when Loyd knocked down a runner early in the fourth quarter.
Ste. Genevieve (6-6) countered on a driving layup from Chloe Staffen, who then dribbled out of danger and delivered an outlet pass to Bri Abt for a layup.
The Dragons eventually closed to within 35-34 as Abt split free throws. But Duepner scored with 1:01 left on a lob from Peyton Guffey, who then extended the slight lead from the line.
Guffey tallied seven rebounds and six points while Lia Ott generated four steals for Jefferson.
Staffen paced the Dragons with 15 points, and connected three times from long range in the first half. Her steal and layup made it 33-29 to close the third quarter.
Abt drew three Jefferson fouls by hitting the offensive glass, and compiled a game-high 13 rebounds with eight points, four steals and three assists.
Kayden Huck added to the Ste. Gen. hustle with 12 rebounds, and Taylor Beckham added two baskets in the second half.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Valley 59, Bismarck 55
BISMARCK – Drew McClain scored nine of his 20 points in the second quarter, and Valley resisted a late charge from Bismarck for a 59-55 conference win on Monday night.
Kaiden Dickey added 13 points while drawing extra attention from the opposing defense, and the Vikings steadily built a 31-21 lead by halftime.
Valley (9-2, 1-0) knocked down 16-of-25 free throws compared to a similar percentage by the host Indians at 13-of-20 overall.
Westin Thompson chipped in seven points while Cam Hedrick and Chayse DeClue netted six apiece in the victory.
Austin Dunlap finished with 15 points, and August Martinez tallied 12 for Bismarck (3-8, 0-1) before fouling out. Two 3-pointers by Talon Goodman helped reduce a 46-36 deficit.
The Indians had four players in double digits as Gabe Crocker and Eon Bone scored 10 each.
