Wednesday Roundup: Bulldogs overcome empty fourth quarter to edge AV

IRONTON – Arcadia Valley erased an 11-point deficit at home with the impressive feat of holding West County completely scoreless in the fourth quarter.
But the Bulldogs wore a path the the charity stripe in overtime on Wednesday night, and remained situated atop the MAAA Small-School standings with a 58-51 victory.
Jaxon Campbell connected three times from long range, and netted a game-high 23 points. Brody Simily made 6-of-6 free throws in the extra session to finish with 19.
One night after rallying from double digits behind to overtake North County, the opposite fate nearly befell West County (8-6, 2-0) in another tough road battle.
Arcadia Valley (6-8, 0-1) trailed 47-36 before frustrating the visitors into repeated empty possessions, and pulled within four on a 3-pointer by reserve guard Brayton Jarvis.
Evan Inman made it 47-45 on a driving layup, and the Tigers missed a potential go-ahead shot after a questionable traveling call against the Bulldogs with 1:04 left in regulation.
Simily followed with an empty trip to the line, and AV produced two offensive rebounds before Jarel Jackson dropped in a tying 6-footer over two defenders with 2 seconds to play.
West County outscored the Tigers 11-4 in overtime with its lone field goal provided by Alex Hogan, who ended with nine points while Nolan Rawson tossed in six.
The Bulldogs grabbed a 19-12 lead after one quarter, and maintained a 31-24 spread at halfitme. They converted 23-of-32 free throws compared to 8-of-12 by the Tigers.
Kaiden Keith paced AV with 11 points among nine players who scored. Dawson Boesing added 10 and Jackson finished with eight.
Ste. Genevieve 64, De Soto 53
STE. GENEVIEVE – Devin Flye scored 21 points and Alex Basler dropped in 19 as Ste. Genevieve outlasted De Soto 64-53 in a clash of Dragons on Wednesday night.
Dominic Johnson compiled nine points while Eli Bennett supplied eight and Jeffrey Hunter accounted for seven in the victory.
Ste. Genevieve (8-7) opened the contest on a 15-7 run after Flye posted nine points in the first 3 ½ minutes. The host squad continued to lead 36-29 at halftime.
De Soto (3-10) rallied to within 45-44 early in the fourth quarter, but surrendered a crucial 8-0 surge to Ste. Genevieve less than a minute later.
Basler attacked for a conventional 3-point play, and Bennett struck from the perimeter on the next possession. Johnson made it 53-44 with an uncontested layup off a steal.
Aidyn Mitchell powered De Soto with 18 points. Austin Horton ended with 11 points, and Brayden McAnally also reached double figures with 10.
Jefferson 68, Kingston 57
CADET – Jefferson knocked down nine 3-pointers, and controlled the second half on Wednesday night to defeat Kingston 68-57 in a make-up game pitting familiar rivals.
Cooper Frisk tallied 19 of his game-high 22 points after intermission. He was 9-of-11 from the line, and connected three times from beyond the arc.
Talon Watson also hit three 3-pointers while scoring 13 overall. Colton Broadwater dropped 12 points, and Blayne Wilson had 11 as four Blue Jays eclipsed double figures.
Jefferson (8-6) used a 21-13 scoring edge in the third quarter to rebuild a 49-42 lead.
Kingston (8-6) exhibited balanced scoring among six players, including 12 points by Brady Thompson, and closed the second quarter well to establish a 31-28 advantage at the break.
Blake Juliette totaled 10 points, and Mason Hendrix ended with nine in defeat. Kyle Whitehead, Ayden Piel and John Coleman each contributed eight.

Central Triangular
PARK HILLS – Central hosted and split a boys wrestling tri-match on Wednesday evening, defeating Dexter 48-34 and falling to St. Clair 52-23.
Mavrick Ratliff (120), Christian Conway (132), Kane Huskey (138), Dakota Bowers (157), August Black (165), Matrim Politte (175) and Corbin Thomas (285) each secured falls against Dexter.
Evan Schaefer (190) of the Rebels received forfeited wins during each dual.
Politte earned his a second pin for Central in the third period against St. Clair, which claimed five of the seven contested bouts.
Huskey polished off an 18-1 technical fall, and Jaeger Adams (126) was unopposed.

Kate Newsom (105) and Addisyn Gasaway (155) recorded falls against Dexter while four teammates received wins via forfeit.
Taylynn Conn-Harris (170) earned the lone pin for the Bearcats.
Central avoided a shutout after St. Clair offered no opponent for Gasaway.
Both sides were open at 190 pounds.
