The Fredericktown High School boys basketball team finishes third in the MAAA Tournament, Saturday, at Mineral Area College.
The Fredericktown High School boys basketball team finished third in the MAAA Tournament, last week, at Mineral Area College.
The Cats, seeded fourth, defeated No. 3-seed West County, 54-51 in the third place game, Saturday.
Fredericktown led 18-7 after one quarter, as David Slinkard scored ten points. Slinkard had a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter, as the Bulldogs trimmed the FHS lead to 24-18. Fredericktown led 41-32 with a quarter to play.
Slinkard led the Cats with 23 points. LeeAndrea Catchings scored 15, Blake Terry-Breakfield scored seven, Tucker Reutzel scored six, and Caleb Feltz scored three.
In the semifinals, Friday night, the Blackcats lost 59-24 to top-seed and eventual tourney champion Farmington.
The Knights jumped to a 17-9 lead after one quarter and led 39-14 at halftime. Reutzel led the Cats with nine points. Slinkard scored eight, Terry-Breakfield scored three, and Catchings and DJ Baca each scored two.
The Cats hosted their senior night, Monday, Feb. 17, at FHS. Blackcats senior players DJ Baca, LeeAndrea Catchings, Braydon McMinn, Braysen Reagan, and Jesse Yount, and their parents were recognized between the junior varsity and varsity games against St. Vincent. Senior cheerleader Abby Roach was also recognized.
Fredericktown defeated the Indians 56-48.
The Blackcats host West County Thursday.
