Barbara ‘Irene’ Koerner
FARMINGTON – Irene Koerner of Chevy Chase, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, February 6 at Sibley Hospital with friends by her side.
Irene was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, the only child of Max and Frances Koerner.
She attended Denison University in Ohio, graduated Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, and George Washington Law School in Washington, D.C. Irene worked in private practice, at the US House of Representatives, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Irene was a member and volunteer at National Presbyterian Church, the Rotary Club and the University Club of Washington DC, where she loved playing bridge.
Irene’s love of travel began early when she took her first solo train trip from Missouri to North Carolina to attend Camp Greystone where she made lifelong friends. Always ready for an adventure, Irene traveled with NP’s Mission Committee, her fellow Rotarians, and on international vacations and rarely missed her summer trip to Rehoboth Beach and Thanksgiving trip to Hahira, Georgia.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, March 7, 11 a.m. at Parkview Cemetery, 1520 Weber Loop Farmington, MO 63640. Arrangements handled by Cozean Memorial Chapel, 217 West Columbia St. Farmington, MO 63640.
A Memorial Service will take place on March 10, 2 p.m. at the National Presbyterian Church 4101 Nebraska Ave, NW Washington, D.C. 20116
