St. Francois County Deputy Matthew Price receives a token of recognition from Sheriff Jeff Crites for his heroic actions on March 27. Submitted
St. Francois County Sheriff Jeff Crites recognized Deputy Matthew Price for his courageous actions during a vehicle crash on Thursday, March 27.
While transporting an inmate to St. Louis, Deputy Price came upon a rollover crash on U.S. Highway 67 at Papin Road involving two children and one adult trapped inside the vehicle. He was the first law enforcement officer to arrive on the scene.
Deputy Price quickly secured the area, contacted emergency services, and assisted civilians in extricating those trapped. Despite the risks, he administered first aid to the injured and maintained custody of the inmate, who remained secured in the transport vehicle.
“Deputy Price’s quick thinking, selflessness, and commitment to duty exemplify the highest ideals of public service,” said Sheriff Crites. “He did not hesitate to help those in need, even at personal risk. We are proud of his actions and grateful for his service.”
Sheriff Crites added, “Thank you, Deputy Price, for your courage and compassion. Actions like these remind us of the vital role law enforcement plays in our communities.”
