The Madison Medical Center Board of Trustees met at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The following board members were present: Denny Ward, Connie Matthews, Kent Marler, Libby Wood, and Debbie Elders. MMC staff present: Lisa Twidwell, Administrator/CEO; Allan Sucharski, CFO; Jennifer Penuel, COO; Melissa Helm, Acute Care DON; Kristen Starkey, Nursing Home DON; Carol Hyatt, Director of Physician Practices; Maureen Medley, Administrative Assistant.
Daytona Brown, MMC’s Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, gave a presentation, demonstrating how to operate a Glidescope, which is an instrument used for intubation. It has video capabilities and is quicker, safer, and more accurate than the manual scope that was previously used.
The following departmental reports were presented to the Board: Acute Care Nursing, LTC Nursing, Rural Health Clinic, COO/Human Resources, and CFO.
Kristen Starkey, Nursing Home DON, is one of the organizers of the Compassion Cafe` and serves as a R-1 School Board member. Carol Hyatt, Director of Physician Practices, and Lisa Twidwell, Administrator, are members of the MCCDD board. Linda Rhodes, Pharmacist, is a member of the Optimist Club. Beth Simmons, Marketing Manager, is a University of Missouri Extension Office board member, serves on the board of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, and serves on the Mineral Area College Fredericktown Outreach Center Advisory Council.
Kristen Starkey reported that six UNITEC students (Juniors at Fredericktown High School), who have been doing their clinical training at Stockhoff Memorial Nursing Home, passed their certification exams and are now able to work as CNA’s in the nursing home.
A group of Stockhoff residents is preparing for a trip to the casino in Cape Girardeau on Friday, May 23.
Omar Nafez, A.P., who has been working in MMC’s Urgent Care Clinic since November 2024, will be leaving on May 22nd to go to California, where he will complete his residency. Tyler McKibben, A.P., will be leaving at the end of June to complete his residency in Illinois.
Paula Haugen, FNP-C, will begin working at MMC next week.
A van from Missouri Baptist Hospital will be at MMC on June 4th and July 1st to provide mobile mammography services. This will be for screening mammograms only.
The Board approved a change to the Medical Staff Bylaws and EMTALA Policy, adding “assistant physicians” to the allied health professional staff classification.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. in the West Main Medical Building.
