FARMINGTON – St. Paul Lutheran High School first established a footprint in varsity athletics with full volleyball and girls basketball teams during the 2014-15 school year.
After 11 seasons of independence, the Giants have found a conference for volleyball and boys hoops, with the future possibility of their other sports teams doing likewise.
St. Paul announced through social media platforms Friday its acceptance among three new members into the Mississippi Valley Conference.
Fellow independent Eagle Ridge and Oak Ridge, jumping from the Scott-Miss Conference, are also new additions, bringing the league of schools with smaller enrollments to seven.
Previously established members are Leopold, Marquand, Zalma and Meadow Heights.
The Giants will immediately be eligible for team and individual conference honors, according to principal Andy Sherrill, who also coaches volleyball, track and field and girls basketball.
Five teams are required to compete as an official conference. Only St. Paul, Oak Ridge, Meadow Heights and Eagle Ridge currently have enough players to sanction girls basketball.
