JACKSON, Mo. – Five cross country programs from the MAAA produced multiple top-25 medalists during the season-opening Jackson Invitational two-mile meet on Saturday morning.
Cecilia Meyer (13:31) finished second in the sophomore girls division for Valle Catholic, trailing only Sophia Bain (12:47) of Kirkwood.
Ella Bley (15:16) debuted by taking eighth after switching sports from volleyball, and teammate Lily Ringwald (15:42) was 11th among junior girls.
Fredericktown junior Breanna Bone (14:06) placed fourth while junior Aubree Bess (18:48) crossed the line 24th and senior Juliana Lunsford (17:57) was 25th.
Central was paced by youth, as Jackson Morris (12:08) finished fifth among freshman boys in his first varsity competition.
Sophomore Reese Hulsey (15:16) placed 11th while Kayelyn Redecker (15:22) and fellow freshman Aubree Ray (20:48) stacked up seventh and 25th, respectively.
Bismarck senior Gabe Crocker (12:50) took 18th, and junior Aubrey Smith (17:56) was 21st to lead their gender divisions.
Kingston featured freshman girls Nevaeh Boyer (17:11) and Joy Trusty (17:48) within the top 20. Jackson Gann (12:59) ended 23rd in the sophomore boys race.
VOLLEYBALL
MICDS Tournament
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Farmington began the high school volleyball season by winning four of its five matches over two days at the MICDS Tournament.
Kylie Woods compiled 13 kills, nine digs and 15 serve receptions on Saturday as the Knights closed with a narrow 25-21, 23-25, 26-24 victory over Clayton.
Lila Roth made the all-tournament team, and finished with seven kills, three blocks, 17 assists and eight digs. Brenna Botkin equaled her seven kills with a team-high 15 digs and 14 receptions.
Ella Scott added eight digs plus three service aces, and Sophie Hall knocked down four kills. Ally Boyd dished out 10 assists, and matched Adalyn Wasson with five digs each.
Farmington went 3-1 in scheduled pool play, starting with a 25-22, 25-17 loss to Duchesne on Friday despite getting eight kills from Woods.
Botkin totaled 12 digs and nine receptions on the back row, and tied Hall with three kills apiece. Boyd finished with nine assists, and Wasson made five digs.
Roth had seven assists in a new capacity as a setter and hitter. She and Mylee Bannister each executed a solo block in the match.
The Knights regrouped for a 25-19, 25-9 pool triumph against Cardinal Ritter, paced by six kills from Roth and 10 assists by Boyd.
Woods tallied five kills with seven digs, and Ella Pierce chipped in three kills.
Botkin notched four kills and five digs, and Woods served two aces with five digs as Saturday action began with a 25-16, 25-11 sweep of Ritenour.
Boyd made seven assists, Pierce landed three kills, and Scott picked up four digs for Farmington.
Pool matches started with a 4-4 tie, and the Knights surrendered just one point to Lift for Life during a 25-4, 25-5 outcome.
Woods served 21 consecutive points with two aces in the first set, and collected 11 digs. Scott posted three aces with five digs, and Boyd totaled 10 assists with six digs.
Botkin led all players with five kills. Bannister added five digs and Pierce scored on a solo block while both equaled Roth with four kills each.

Hillsboro Tournament
HILLSBORO, Mo. – Ste. Genevieve posted a 3-1-1 record on Saturday, and finished runner-up to the host school at the season-opening Hillsboro Tournament.
Hillsboro prevailed 25-17, 26-24 in the best-of-3 championship match after the teams split a morning pool contest 25-17, 18-25.
Ste. Genevieve reached the final after beating Northwest 25-14, 25-20, and swept Warrenton 25-18, 25-11 and Cape Central 25-16, 25-23 in earlier action.
Emma Gegg and Emme Browne were selected to the all-tournament team.
SOFTBALL
Jackson Invitational
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Fredericktown softball team capped its opening weekend by finishing atop the consolation bracket of the Jackson Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Winning pitcher Michaela Reagan and Brylie Allgier were each 2-for-3 with two RBI, Ella Penwell singled twice with two runs scored and the Lady Cats routed Lutheran South 13-0 in five innings.
Fredericktown (3-1) established a 5-0 lead through three innings, and tacked on four runs in each of the last two frames to essentially place ninth among 16 teams.
Reagan scattered four hits over four innings before Miley Wengler closed the shutout.
Jonsyn Rehkop tripled with an RBI for the Lady Cats. Wengler singled with two walks, and equaled Abby Rehkop with two RBI.
Ella Wilson took the pitching loss after allowing nine runs – five earned – on seven hits and striking out three after lasting into the fourth inning. She paced the Lutheran South offense at 2-for-2.
The tournament opened for the Lady Cats with a 9-5 loss to Parkway South on Friday, despite three RBI and a home run from Wengler.
The Patriots used a six-run outburst to lead 8-0 in the third inning, getting two hits apiece from Natalie Brody, Brookley Ware and Charli Dougherty.
Wengler belted a two-run shot in the fifth, and notched an RBI single in the fourth. Jonsyn Rehkop was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI for Fredericktown.
Penwell ended 2-for-3 with a double while Reagan and Allgier chipped in one single each. Wengler gave seven runs and walked five in the loss. Abby Rehkop twirled four solid innings in relief.
Ava Moretti threw all six frames and struck out five while yielding eight hits for Parkway South.
Fredericktown bounced back later Friday with 17-1 rout over Van Buren after achieving its entire scoring output in the first inning.
Reagan finished 2-for-2 with three RBI, and Penwell drove in a team-high four runs on two hits for the Lady Cats. Brooklyn Hendrix and Jonsyn Rehkop each singled with two runs scored.
Becca Mangold pitched two hitless frames for the win.
Wengler, Allgier and Mangold each provided a hit while scoring two runs, and Abby Rehkop reached safely twice with an RBI.
Katelyn Warner singled and scored for Van Buren.
Abby Rehkop totaled five RBI, including a three-run homer, and Fredericktown continued consolation bracket play on Saturday morning with a 14-3 victory over Naylor.
Allgier went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Jonsyn Rehkop, Reagan and Penwell notched multiple hits as well for the Lady Cats, who grabbed an 8-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Naylor responded for its only damage against winning hurler Reagan in the home half. Faith Tillman paced the Lady Eagles in a 2-for-3 effort with two RBI.
Reagan allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings. Abby Rehkop followed with a scoreless sixth.
Wengler picked up two RBI, Brooklyn Josifek scored twice with a single, and Averee Kelley stole three bases as a courtesy runner in the win.
De Soto 14, Farmington 2
FARMINGTON – De Soto erupted for 13 runs in the top of the third inning, and capitalized on six Farmington errors for a 14-2 victory on Friday.
Kylee Turner finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI to pace the Dragons. Lyla Stephens went 2-for-3 while Lillian Travis and Ella Bell doubled.
Travis surrendered an early lead in the circle, but gave no earned runs on five hits and struck out five for the five-inning win.
Kylen Knight singled and drew two walks in three plate appearances for Farmington (0-2). Izzy Staat added an RBI single, and Gracie Mann, Madison Clay and Kamryn Kennedy provided hits.
Jaylynne Payne fanned three and walked five while allowing 10 runs in the loss.
BASEBALL
West County 3, Meadow Heights 0
LEADWOOD – Parker Therrell pitched six shutout innings, and West County began its fall baseball season on Friday with a 3-0 triumph over Meadow Heights.
Jess Ketcherside and Therrell contributed doubles, and Isaac Hayes had an RBI single as the Bulldogs achieved their entire scoring output in the bottom of the fourth.
Brody Simily singled and walked as both teams tallied four hits. Ketcherside caught a runner stealing in the sixth, and Therrell allowed just two hits with five strikeouts.
Meadow Heights loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but Isaac Hayes worked around two hits with a strikeout and ground ball to third for the save.
Caidyn Byrd pitched a scoreless frame with three strikeouts, and went 2-for-3 to pace the Panthers. His double in the fourth inning snapped a string of nine straight batters retired by Therrell.
Kamden Hays threw the first five innings, and fanned four while walking two in defeat. Payden Lema and Riley Smith singled for the visitors.
