Thursday Roundup: Setters Reed, Hubbs surpass 1,000 assists

Two senior volleyball setters achieved personal milestones on Thursday night when Megan Reed of North County and Kinsey Hubbs of Bismarck each registered their 1,000th career assist.

Reed helped the Lady Raiders outlast visiting De Soto in five games while Hubbs eclipsed the mark in a 25-14, 25-13, 25-14 sweep over Crystal City.

Ste. Genevieve 3, Jefferson 2

STE. GENEVIEVE – Multiple match points slipped away in game four, but Ste. Genevieve regrouped to defeat Jefferson 20-25, 25-17, 25-9, 24-26, 15-9 on Thursday night.

Emma Gegg posted 18 kills and 24 digs while Ally Gegg tallied 13 kills, 12 digs, 18 assists, two blocks and two aces to pace the Dragons.

Aleah Filer provided 10 kills and a team-high six blocks from her middle position, and Lilah Nix led the back row with 26 digs and two aces.

Emme Browne supplied 18 digs plus seven assists, and Emma Jokerst set for 19 assists while making 12 digs and two blocks defensively.

Ste. Genevieve (5-1-1) also got four kills and three blocks from Holly Grass, along with two aces from Chloe Wehner.

Arcadia Valley 3, Lesterville 1

LESTERVILLE, Mo. – Sophomore setter Annabelle Adams compiled 38 assists and 14 digs as Arcadia Valley defeated Lesterville 25-11, 25-16, 21-25, 25-19 on Thursday.

Hattie Vinyard knocked down 14 kills while making 13 digs, and Alena Maxwell finished with 11 kills and 12 digs for the Lady Tigers.

Kaitlyn Bullis picked up 16 digs, and Lillie Adams provided 14 more. Andrea McClanahan totaled three service aces and three kills.

Emma Dunn notched eight kills with 11 digs, and Callie Hinkle totaled 12 digs, four aces and two kills in the road victory.

GIRLS TENNIS

North County 7, Arcadia Valley 2

IRONTON – Alli Scott and Kinley Tracy were tested as a doubles pairing, and later won challenging singles battles atop the player rankings for North County on Thursday.

The Lady Raiders also received two victories from senior Laney Smith, and prevailed 7-2 over Arcadia Valley in an MAAA girls tennis showdown.

Alli Scott edged Braelyn Turnbough, and Tracy got past Reese Brogan by 8-5 margins. Smith pocketed an 8-3 singles win after teaming with Lydia Hasemeier for an identical result.

Turnbough and Brogan pushed the reigning state doubles medalists before falling 9-7. Two rematches could arrive later this month leading into the MAAA Tournament.

Claire Scott and Baily Whited earned singles wins to bolster North County (2-0, 2-0).

Meleah Lara dispatched Jada Braswell 8-6 in a competition No. 3 singles match, and joined Mary Beth Young in an 8-0 shutout favoring Arcadia Valley (0-3, 0-1).

Potosi 8, Charleston 1

CHARLESTON, Mo. – Harlee Kley paired with Brenna Yount for a doubles shutout, then recorded another during her singles match as Potosi topped Charleston 8-1 on Thursday.

Chloe Rowe and Shannon Riddle teamed for an 8-2 victory while Caity Cain and Kinsley Vance put together an 8-4 outcome in a doubles sweep for the Lady Trojans.

Potosi (2-0) picked up a couple of narrow triumphs of 9-7 from Riddle and 8-6 from Cain.

Miley Jarvis and Rowe won their singles contests 8-2.

SOFTBALL

Fredericktown 9, Saxony Lutheran 6

FREDERICKTOWN – Jonsyn Rehkop homered and went 2-for-4 with three RBI on Thursday as Fredericktown held off the Saxony Lutheran and St. Vincent partnership 9-6.

Abby Rehkop finished 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored for the Lady Cats, who tallied four times in the third inning to build a 9-1 advantage.

Michaela Reagan pitched a complete game with three strikeouts for the win, allowing five earned runs on eight hits and three walks.

Adrienne Cox singled with two RBI, and Brooklyn Josifek singled with two walks as Fredericktown notched its sixth consecutive victory (6-1).

Reagan helped her own cause offensively with a double and RBI. Ella Penwell, Brylie Allgier and Averee Kelley each chipped in singles.

Ansley Palisch amassed seven total bases for Saxony Lutheran (3-1), going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two runs scored.

Adrionna Boland was 2-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored, while Kessly Scholl doubled and singled with three RBI. Natalie Brown yielded eight earned runs over two innings in the loss.

CROSS COUNTRY

St. Vincent Invitational

PERRYVILLE, Mo. – The Ste. Genevieve boys picked up a second-place prize during the St. Vincent Invitational cross country meet on Thursday.

Finn McClard (18:45) finished 12th among 100 individual boys while teammates Garret Gallup (19:06) crossed 16th and Andrew Woodard (19:36) took 19th for the Dragons.

Zack Ritter (19:54) punctuated the top 25, and Adrian Bauman (20:21) completed the team score ahead of Gavin Gegg (21:05).

Brayden Smith (18:37) posted the fastest 5K time among MAAA athletes to place 11th, and Zachary Johnson (19:15) was 17th for Potosi.

Jase Miller (19:35) paced West County in 18th. Oliver Griffard (19:58) of Valle Catholic and Gabe Crocker (20:09) of Bismarck were 28th and 29th, respectively.

Potosi lined up third in the girls team standings, and all-state junior Peyton Heifner (21:05) finished fifth out of 65 individuals.

Carley Coleman (24:04) ended up 19th, and Chloe Lambing (24:50) was 24th for the Lady Trojans.

Sophomore Cecilia Meyer (21:42) headlined Valle Catholic in sixth, followed by Lily Ringwald (23:53) in 18th and Ella Bley (25:05) in 28th.

Ste. Genevieve landed two runners in the top 10 with Ashlyn Wezner (22:07) and Laurie Faulkner (22:23) concluding back-to-back in eighth and ninth.
